Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's first title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.
Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.
The player's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was over.
But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.
Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a final set.
He defended 4 initial chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
